Black Cod (Sable Fish)
Though often referred to as a Black Cod, the Sablefish is not a member of the cod species. The wide-ranging, long-lived sablefish is popular in Japan, where most of this species is marketed. Produces oil rich in vitamins A and D, it can live as long as 62 years and grow to a record of 4 feet (122 cm). The highest valued finfish per pound in Alaska, our fresh Black Cod are found in waters that are in excess of 650 ft. A majority of the Black Cod sold in the US is frozen. Ours are always fresh!
Size: 6lb-10lbs and are delivered head off / gutted.
Taste Profile: With a very delicate, buttery and sweet taste, our fresh Black Cod presents extremely well due to its clean, white meat.
Location and Season: The majority of our fresh Black Cod are caught between the months of March and November off the coasts of Alaska and Washington State.
